The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year! We hope you get a chance to spend time with your family and loved ones. As we bid farewell to 2016, we must remember the blessings in our lives and look forward with hope to the future. The coming of 2017 could mean many great things if we stay positive and work hard towards our goals.
New Year's day is a reminder in our lives to try to change for the better. No other holiday comes with such a clear assignment, and such possibilities. We can make atonement, forgiveness, acceptance, or confession to any issues in our lives. This is healthy and proper to do.
New Year's day dates back to 4000 years ago in Mesopotamia, in present day Iraq. The Babylonians and the Romans made promises to their gods on the first day of the new year, and some cultures exchanged gifts on New Year's day much like we do today on Christmas. In the western world, the tradition slowly shifted to being promises made to oneself.
New Year's eve celebrations began to appear in America around the start of the 1900's. The first Ball drop in Times Square was held in 1907. Around the same time, special events to welcome the New Year started to be organized on January 1.
The King's Port Inn has availability for New Years Day. We have premium King rooms for only $89.00 a night. We also have Luxury Jacuzzi Suites for only $139.00 a night. Each room includes a free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. We are in a great location, only 2 blocks from the center of Kennebunkport. For reservation inquires, please call us at 1-800-286-57567. Spend the New Year in fabulous Kennebunkport!

The History Of Santa Claus!
The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy holiday season!
This is a magical time of year, and we hope you are spending time with family and friends. The town of Kennebunkport is decked out for the holidays and the feeling of Christmas is in the air. We hope you get a chance to visit us this holiday season.
We would like to present an interesting history of Santa Claus that you might find interesting:
Santa Claus is known today as a toy distributor who mans a sleigh led by eight reindeer, but he is actually based on a real person. That real person was Saint Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra, located in the present state of Turkey. He was born around the year 270, in the town of Patara(Turkey) . He earned a reputation as an anonymous gift giver, by paying the dowries of impoverished girls and handing out treats and coins to children.
His fame spread in Europe and Christmas presents were distributed on December 6th, when the celebration of St. Nicholas took place. He was later imprisoned during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian, but was released under the Emperor Constantine. He attended the first council of Nicaea in 325.
St. Nicholas reportedly died about 350 AD. Thousands of churches are dedicated to him throughout Europe. He is the patron saint of Russia, Moscow, Greece, children, prisoners, bakers, pawnbrokers, shopkeepers and wolves. Today, Saint Nicholas is alive and well, and is known all over the world as: Nicholas of Myra, Santa Claus or "Santa" in America.
The modern day American version of St. Nicholas, comes from the Dutch version called Sint Nikolass or Sinterklass. The Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam(New York) brought this version to America: A merry old man with red and white clothing, Eight flying reindeer, A home located near the North Pole, and filling stockings with presents.
Also, the modern day American version come from a poem called "A Visit From St. Nicholas" by Clement C. Moore. Written in 1823, this family poem was later published for the general public and included the now famous picture of Santa Claus by illustrator Thomas Nast.
We hope you enjoyed this brief history. The King's Port Inn has availability for the Christmas weekend. We have premium king rooms for only $99.00 a night. We also have Jacuzzi suites available for only $119.00 a night. Each room includes free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. To make a reservation, please call us at 1-800-286-5767. We would be happy to hear from you.

First Christmas Prelude Weekend!
The King's Port Inn wants to wish everybody a happy Christmas prelude weekend! Christmas Prelude started in Kennebunkport in 1982, and has since grown into one of the most popular times of the year. It is a charming two weekend event which features a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, door to door Christmas caroling, craft shows, and a visit from old Saint Nick!
The whole town is decked out in bright lights, bows and boughs to welcome the holiday season. The town really transforms itself into a century old village with the old fashioned spirit of the holiday and the joy of giving. Like a Norman Rockwell scene, the town conjures up Christmas' of the past and the magic of the true holiday spirit. In 2009, HGTV featured Prelude as the "#2 Christmas town in America". Festivities also extend to downtown Kennebunk and to the fishing village of Cape Porpoise where locals construct a Christmas Tree entirely out of Lobster Traps!
Here is a list of the signature events:
Tree Lighting Ceremony in Dock Square: On Friday, December 2nd, at 5:30 pm the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Dock Square officially begins the season. Join in Christmas caroling with the Kennebunk High School Chamber Choir, directed by Nathan Menifield. This event has been known to attract former first ladies of the U.S.
Annual Hat Parade: The 11th Annual Hat Parade kicks off on Saturday, December 3rd, at 3:00 pm. A parade of holiday hats for children and adults led by the Patriot fife and Drum Duo. Show off your handmade or store bought creations. All hat wearers are welcome! The parade starts in Dock Square and goes over the bridge to Best of Everything where prizes will be awarded.
Christmas Candlelight Caroling at the Franciscan Monastery: On Saturday, December 3rd, at 6:30 pm join the Franciscans at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto on the grounds of St. Anthony's Monastery for the story of the birth of Jesus interspersed with Christmas songs by candlelight. Presented by St. Anthony's Monastery and the Secular Franciscan Order.
Santa Arrives by Lobster Boat: On Sunday, December 4th, at 2:00 pm see old Saint Nick himself arrive by lobster boat. After docking his boat at David's KPT on Ocean Avenue, follow Santa and his Lobster Elves through Dock Square to the Community House on Temple Street for photos. There may be a little wait while all children and families have their special time with Santa.
Unfortunately, the King's Port Inn is booked up for the first prelude weekend. We are happy and thankful for our many returning guests that come back every year for the prelude. Some as long as 20 years! We do, however, have a sister property called the Lodge at Turbat's Creek. The Lodge has availability for the first prelude for $159 a night. Their phone number is 1-877-594-5634.

Happy Thanksgiving!
The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving! We wish you a wonderful day with your family, friends and loved ones. Thanksgiving is a great holiday to spend with the people you care about. Please enjoy your turkey, dressings, potatoes, squash, and apple pie. Just remember to leave room for dessert!
On this Thanksgiving, we want to share some interesting facts about the holiday. We all know the basics, but here are some things you probably didn't know:
1. The first known Thanksgiving feast held in North America was by the Spanish Conquistadors. In May of 1541, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado held a feast for 1500 men in what today is known as the Texas Panhandle.
2. Thanksgiving was not officially a national holiday until after Congress declared it one in 1941. Also, President Franklin Roosevelt initially declared Thanksgiving for the 3rd Thursday in November to lengthen the holiday shopping season. This was eventually changed back to the 4th Thursday.
3. Turkeys were the first animals in America to be domesticated. They can run up to 20 miles per hour. They can also burst into flight approaching speeds between 50-55 mph in a matter of seconds.
4. There are over 280 million turkeys sold for Thanksgiving every year.
5. There were no turkeys served on the first Thanksgiving! Historians say the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians served deer or venison, ducks, geese, oysters, lobster, eel and fish. They probably ate pumpkins, but no pumpkin pies, along with cranberries.
We hope you enjoyed these interesting Thanksgiving facts. The King's Port Inn has availability for Thanksgiving day. We have premium king rooms for only $89 a night. We also have luxury Jacuzzi suites starting at $129 a night. All rooms include free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. We are located just 2 blocks from downtown Kennebunkport. For more information, please call 1-800-286-5767. We would be happy to hear from you.

Jack-o'-lantern!
The Jack-o'-latern is one of most recognizable symbols of Halloween. They are usually carried by trick or treaters on Halloween to frighten evil spirits. The story of the Jack-o'-latern is traced back to an old Irish Christian folktale, which is said, the Jack-o'-latern represents a "soul who has been denied entry into both heaven and hell".
Here is the folktale:
On route home after a night's drinking, Jack encounters the Devil and tricks him into climbing a tree. A quick-thinking Jack etches the sign of the cross into the bark, thus trapping the Devil. Jack strikes a bargain that Satan can never claim his soul. After a life of sin, drink, and mendacity, Jack is refused entry to heaven when he dies. Keeping his promise, the Devil refuses to let Jack into hell and throws a live coal straight from the fires of hell at him. It was a cold night, so Jack places the coal in a hollowed out turnip to stop it from going out, since which time Jack and his lantern have been roaming to rest.
In recent years, a pumpkin has been used for carving instead of the turnip. The pumpkin is much softer and larger-making it easier to carve than a turnip. The American tradition of carving pumpkins is recorded in 1837 and was originally associated with harvest time in general, not becoming specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century.
The King's Port Inn has availability on Halloween night. We have premium king rooms for only $89 a night. We also have Jacuzzi suites starting at $109 a night. History Of Halloween!
The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy Halloween! Our town of Kennebunk is one of the best places in New England to enjoy Halloween. We have many historic houses and inns that date back to the early 1800's. Summer street, in Kennebunk, is a perfect example. These houses are usually decorated with ghosts and scary creatures, and offer a fun time for trick-or-treaters. It is also a safe place for families to go being a short walking distance from downtown Kennebunk.
The King's Port Inn would like to share a brief history of Halloween:
Although there is some debate on the origins of Halloween, if it believed to have been influenced by Christian dogma and the practices derived from it. Halloween is the evening before the Christian Holy Days of "All Saints Day". So, Halloween literally means "All Hallow's Eve", the day before All Hallow's Day. These Holidays are a time for honoring the saints and martyrs and praying for the recently departed souls who have not yet to reach heaven. In 609, Pope Boniface started this tradition at the Pantheon in Rome.
By the end of the 12th century the holiday evolved to the tradition of ringing church bells for the souls in purgatory. In addition, it was customary for criers dressed in black to parade the streets, ringing bells and calling on all good Chistians to remember the poor souls stuck in purgatory. Then in the 15th century, in Germany, groups of people, often children, began going door-to-door asking for soul cakes in exchange for praying for the dead.
It was also believed that Halloween provided one last chance for the dead to gain vengeance on their enemies before moving to the next world. In order to avoid being recognized by any soul that sought vengeance, people would don masks or costumes to disguise their identities.
On Halloween, in medieval Europe, fires were lit to guide those souls on their way and deflect them from haunting honest Christian folk. Households in Austria, England and Ireland often had candles burning in every room to guide the souls back to visit their earthly homes.
The modern day version of Halloween started in the early 20th century, with children going "guising" around the neighborhood. Trick or treating did not become widespread until the 1930's. In recent days, there has been a popular variant of trick-or-treating called trunk-or-treating. These are decorated car trunks that offer treats from a church or school parking lot. This being a safer alternative to going door-to-door.
We at the King's Port Inn hope you enjoyed this history. We have availability for Halloween and the month of October. We have premium King rooms for as low at $89.00 a night. Also, we have Jacuzzi suites starting at $109 a night. Each room includes free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. To make a reservation, please call us at 1-800-286-5767. We would be happy to hear from you.

Labor Day Weekend!
The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy Labor Day weekend! Labor day weekend is a special holiday for all hard working Americans. It honors the contributions workers have made towards the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It is an official day of rest and relaxation. A day of spending time with family and friends and enjoying each other's company.
Labor day weekend is the last weekend to experience the full joys of summer. You can go to the beach, eat ice cream and enjoy that long novel you've been wanting to read. The weather is still great; with clear and sunny days and mild/hot afternoons. It is a great time to relax before the kids go back to school and you go back to work!
Kennebunkport will be very busy this Labor day weekend. You could go to Federal Jack's pub for an afternoon lunch and enjoy fantastic views of the Kennebunk river. Or, take a drive down scenic Ocean Avenue and stop by Mabel's Lobster Claw for a delicious lobster roll. After Mabel's, continue on Ocean Avenue, and pull over at the Bush compound for some great views of the president's summer home. There is Kennebunk Beach, the Franciscan Monastery, and The Wedding Cake house, all famous tourist attractions. There are also many good restaurants in the area: Hurricane's, David's and Ocean at The Cape Arundel Inn. All seafood is fresh with many appetizers offered.
The King's Port Inn has availability for Labor Day weekend. We have premium rooms with King beds for only $159 a night. We also offer Jacuzzi suites for only $199 a night. All rooms come with free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. We are located less than 2 blocks from the center of town, and less than 1 mile from Kennebunk Beach. To make a reservation please call us

Farmer's Market
The King's Port Inn would like to let everybody know about our local Farmers' Market! With the summer being here, this means fresh fruits and vegetables for everybody. All products are locally grown within the Kennebunk area. You can reconnect with the cycles of nature with spring sap peas, summer sweet corn, or crisp fall apples. Eat with the season or enjoy the variety. The Kennebunk Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday, from 8am to 1pm, rain or shine, from May 7th to November 19, 2016. It is located in the Garden Street Municipal Lot behind the former Garden Street Market, in downtown Kennebunk.
Here are some reasons to shop the Farmer's Market:
Support family farming. Family farming are becoming increasingly rare. Large agribusinesses are steadily taking over small family-own farms. Buying directly from farmers gives them a better chance in today's economy.
Variety. There is a assortment of plants, flowers, vegetables and other goodies that you might not find at the grocery store. You can also find local meats, dairy, jams and baked goods. It's a great opportunity to try something new.
Protect the environment. Food in the U.S. travels an average of 1,500 miles to get to your table. Shipping uses large amounts of natural resources, and contributes to pollution. Walking to your local market decreases this extra waste.
Know where your food comes from. Meeting and talking to farmers is a great opportunity to learn more about how food is grown, where it is grown and why. You can also ask vendors any questions you might have about their goods and how they are processed.
We at the King's Port hope you get an opportunity to visit the Farmer's market. We have rooms available through the end of August. We have premium king beds for only a $179 a night. Also, Jacuzzi suites for only $199 a night. All rooms include free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. To make a reservation, please call us at 1-800-286-5767. Thank you.

2. Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the East Coast. Named after explorer Antoine Laument de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, it is 1530 feet tall, and from Octoboer through March, is the first place where the sun rises in the United States.
3. Maine's annual lobster yield is 60 million pounds, with 124 million caught in 2014. That's almost 90 percent of the United State's lobster supply.
4. Portland, Oregon is named after Portland, Maine. The Oregon City was founded by two New Englanders, one from Massachusetts, and the other from Maine. After a coin flip, Francis Pettygrove of Maine got the chance to name the city. He picked Portland to honor his hometown.
5. Maine used to be part of Massachusetts. The former Massachusetts province spent decades after the American Revolution campaigning for indepenedence, and finally gained official statehood in 1820.

Kennebunk Beach
The King's Port in is hoping everybody is having wonderful summer season! We hope it's fun and safe, and filled with many outdoor activities. One of the best outdoor activities a person can enjoy is going to the beach! Most residents of Maine will tell you that going to the beach is very special and unique, due to the cold weather year round. We as Mainers(and New-England for that matter) have a very short season to enjoy the beach, so we take advantage of it when we can.
Kennebunk Beach is so named from the Abenaki language meaning "long cut bank". It is in reference to the Great Hill at the mouth of the Mousam River, which would have been an important landmark to native Americans when travelling in their canoes.
The first Europeans to visit Kennebunk Beach were 16th century fisherman from England. They came during the summer season with large fishing vessels to bring back fish to the markets in England. The area wasn't settled until the 1620's, when Kennebunk was part of Wells. Kennebunk broke from Wells in 1820.
Kennebunk Beach is a long sandy beach comprised of 3 separate and distinct beachheads. The first one being called "Gooches Beach", the second being called "Middle Beach", and the third called "Mother's Beach". During the summer, there are active life guards on duty along with regular police patrols. Parking is available at the beach with a valid parking permit from the town. The cost is $20 for a day pass(We offer them at our hotel for $10 a day). Dogs are allowed at Kennebunk Beach before 9am and after 5pm during the summer. They are allowed all day after the summer season. Kennebunk Beach is truly an amazing beach and we hope you all get a chance to experience it.
If you would like to visit Kennebunk Beach, the King's Port Inn has availability for the month of August. Our premium rooms with king beds are only $179 a night. Our Jacuzzi suites with king beds are only $219 a night. All rooms come with free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. Happy July 4th!
We at the King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy July 4th weekend! We hope you celebrate this weekend with your family and loved ones. Please be safe and have a good time!
We also hope, that you take a moment and reflect on the blessings of this country. The remarkable achievement of the 13 original colonies who successfully suceded from the mighty British Empire. Many important Americans played a part in making this country independent. Great statemen like Thomas Jefferson and John Jay. Superb political orators, like John Adams and Patrick Henry. And constitutional genius's like James Madsion and James Monroe. And of course, the father of the country, and first president George Washington. His leadership with the continental army gave us the victory on the battlefield.
So, in summary, we Americans have a lot to celebrate this weekend. The July 4th fireworks will begin around 9pm, at Kennebunk Beach, at Narragansett Point, in-between Kennebunk Beach and Middle Beach. The fireworks last about 45 mintues to 1 hour. You might want to start out early because traffic will be tight. It you can't make it to Kennebunk Beach, another good spot to see the fireworks is Colony Beach off Ocean Avenue, about 1 mile from the King's Port Inn. There is a jetty there, and the views are really good.
The King's Port Inn has limited availability for the July 4th weekend. We have premium rooms with King beds for only $189 a night. We have Jacuzzi Suites with King beds starting at $209 a night. Each rooms includes free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. To make a reservation, please call 1-800-286-5767, we would be happy to assist you.

Walker's Point!
Walker's Point, the summer home of former president George H. W. Bush, is perhaps the biggest tourist attraction in the town of Kennebunkport. Every year, thousands of tourist come to Kennebunkport to get a glimpse of the former president. The King's Point Inn would like to take this opportunity to give some of the history of Walker's Point to our friends and guests.
Walker's Point is a peninsula that was originally named Flying Point, because many sea birds lived and perched there. The name then changed to Point Vesuvius and became a popular summer spot, for it's paths, coves and ocean views. In the late 1800's, the 11-acre property was acquired by the Kennebunkport Sea Shore Company, and was named Damon's Park, after Samuel Damon, the Boston agent of the company.
Damon's Park continued to be open to the public until it was purchased in 1902 by a wealthy St. Louis dry goods merchant named David Davis "D. D." Walker, and his son George "Bert" Walker. Two family cottages were built on the property.
After D. D. and his wife (and later Bert and his wife) passed away, Walker's Point was kept in the family by inheritance. The ownership of the property was passed to Bert's daughter, Dorothy Walker Bush, the mother of George H. W. Bush.
George H.W. Bush has been to Walker's Point every summer of his life but once-when he was serving in the Navy in 1944-and he considers this area his "anchor to windward". In 2009, friends and family honored the former president by erecting a monument, a 6,000-lb Navy anchor, located across the cove from Walker's Point on Ocean Avenue.
We hope you enjoyed this brief history of Walker's Point. The King's Port Inn has availability for the month of June. We have premium King or 2 Queen rooms for as low as $119 a night. Each room includes free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. To make a reservation, please call us at 1-800-286-5767. We hope to hear from you.

Some Things To Do in Kennebunkport
The King's Port Inn, located in the heart of Kennebunkport, would like to take this opportunity to share some local attractions to our guests not farmiliar with the area. These attractions are what makes Kennebunkport a lovely tourist spot and a beautiful seaside community. We hope you have time to visit and enjoy these great destinations. To name a few:
1. Walker's Point, the Bush Compound. Located off Ocean Avenue, 2 miles from the center of town, is the summer home of former president George H. W. Bush. There is a small shoulder off the road, where you can pull over and take pictures of the Compound. The estate has been in the family for over 100 years.
2. Kylie's Chance Lobster Tour. Sitting behind the Pilot House, on the pier, is the lobster boat Kylie Chance. This 1 and 1/2 hour tour takes you up the Kennebunk River, past Walker's Point, and past the manions on Ocean Avenue. Then the lobster traps are brought out of the water and you can see what was caught the night before. A perfect Maine outing.
3. Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge. Located off Rt. 9 in Wells, this refuge is a terrific place to go for a walk and enjoy nature's scenery. Walk through the salt marsh and forested uplands: a beautiful area that Rachel Carson would have loved.
4. World Famous Clam Shack. The Clam Shack is one of the most popular take out stands in the world. Located right on the Kennebunk Bridge, this stand-up shack offers the best lobster rolls in town. Lobster rools are cloaked in both butter and mayo to satisfy every vacationer.

Brief King's Port Inn History
We at the King's Port Inn want to wish everybody a happy spring. We hope you are enjoying the season thus far. We wanted to share a brief history of the King's Port Inn.
The history of the King's Port Inn is suprisingly simple. Before 1950, there was a farm house that sat on the current lot of the King's Port Inn, on the corner of Rt. 9 and Rt. 35. There is a photograph of this house printed by the Journal Tribune which hangs in our lobby.
At some point in the 1950's, the farm house was torn down, and a restaurant was built. The owners of this restaurant were Don and Elise Showalter. They then expanded the property to include a small hotel, along with the restaurant. The name of this hotel was "Ye Old Highway Inn" and was built in the 1960's. In the 1970's, the Showalter's changed the name of this hotel to the "Nautilus". That name stuck until the late 1970's. The name of the hotel again changed to it's current name "The King's Port Inn". The Showalter's sold "The King's Port Inn" to a college professor named Bill Greer in the early 1980's. Mr. Greer was a handy man, and added some rooms and the third floor to the original hotel. He owned the property up until 2002, when the current owners, the Kudas family, purchased the property from him.
So, as of 2016, there have been 3 different owners of the King's Port Inn. The King's Port Inn has been in business for approximately 60 years. We hope you enjoyed this brief history, and find time to visit us this season.
We have premium rooms with a king bed or 2 queens for only $89 a night. We also have Jaccuzi rooms for only $119 a night. All rooms come with a free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. We are a short walking distance to downtown Kennebunkport. Please call us at 800-286-5767 to make a reservation.

Fun Facts About Spring!
We at the King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy spring! We hope everybody had a wonderful winter season and is ready to embrace the warmer months and summer! In celebration of Spring, the King's Port Inn would like to share some interesting facts about this time of year. So, we present to you 7 fun facts about Spring:
1. Baby birds learn to sing during the spring. Although they were born with the ability to sing, they learn the songs in the spring.
2. If you stand at the equator on the first day of spring, you will see the sun pass directly over head. This only happens twice a year(the other being autumn).
3. Arizona and Hawaii do not follow daylight savings time. They already have enough sunlight and hot weather so the states don't confuse the sleeping cycle of their residents.
4. Daylight Savings Time saves approximately 1% of electricity a day.
5. Daylight Savings Time starts and ends at different times around the world.
6. Spring fevor is a real syndrome. When the temperature rises during the warm spell after a long winter, there is a dilation of the blood vessel so blood can be carried to the body surface where heat can be lost quickly. People experience an energetic feeling when this happens.
7. And finally, Benjamin Franklin(of course!), was the first to propose daylight savings time in 1784. It wasn't fully implemented until the end of the Second World War.
We hope you enjoyed these fun facts. The King's Port Inn has availability in the spring season. We have premium rooms with 1 King bed or 2 Queens beds for only $89 a night. We also have Jacuzzi suites available for only $119 a night. Each room includes a flat screen tv, refrigerator, free wi fi, and continental breakfast each morning. St. Patrick's Day
The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy Saint Patrick's Day! Saint Patrick's day is celebrated this year on Thursday, March 15th. It is a cultural and religious celebration of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. He was born in 385 AD and lived until 461 AD.
The day commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It is celebrated by the Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox Church. Saint Patrick's Day also celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish. It is an official public holiday in the Republic of Ireland. The day usually includes parades, festivals, and church services.
In honor of Saint Patrick's Day, the King's Port Inn would like to share some fun facts:
1. The actual color of Saint Patrick is blue. Green became associated with St. Patrick's Day during the 19th century. Green was used because it represented fairies and immortals in Irish legend, and farmers also used it to encourage crop growth.
2. The very first St. Patrick's Day parade was not in Ireland, but in Boston in 1737.
3. 34 million Americans have Irish ancestry, according to the 2003 U.S. Census. That's almost nine times the population of Ireland.
4. Nine of the people who signed our Declaration of Independence were of Irish origin, and nineteen Presidents of the U.S. proudly claim Irish heritage-including President George Washington.
5. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14.
6. Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something; the first is hope, the second for faith, the third for love, and the fourth for luck.

The King's Port Inn
