Some Local Activities!

The King's Port Inn wants to wish everybody a happy October! The month of October is a wonderful time to visit Maine. The weather is good; with sunny days and cooler nights. It is a great time to get out and enjoy some activities with family and friends. Here are some local activities:
The St. Franciscan Monastery is celebrating it's 70th anniversary! A small group of Lithuanian Franciscan Friars came to Kennebunk 70 years ago and opened the Monastery. To celebrate, a special mass will be given at 11 am, on Sunday, October 1st, by H. E. Bishop Robert Deeley at the chapel followed by a luncheon at the Franciscan Guest House Auditorium. River Tree Arts is hosting a one-day oil painting workshop with Dan Graziano on Saturday, October 14th, from 9 am- 4 pm. The workshop will discuss techniques to quickly transfer the important elements of a reference photo to the canvas, as well as creating an artistic painting rather than simply rendering a photograph. Also, the class will discuss the basics of oil painting. Dan Graziano is an award-winning, nationally exhibited artist. The cost is $95 per person. Please call 207-967-9120 for more information. The Ogunquit Playhouse is showing "From Here to Eternity" from October 4th - October 29. Tim Rice and the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival are rolling out the first North American premiere of this epic musical. Set in Hawaii in the weeks before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, this tale follows the story of two U. S. soldiers, and their quest for love with the wrong women. This compelling story of men at war along with a fantastic new score is not to be missed. The play runs 2 hours and 45 minutes. Please call 207-646-5511 for more information. Leaf Peeper Luncheon and horse drawn hayride, on October 9th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, at Cape Arundel Cottage Preserve. You can take a ride along the Cape Arundel Cottage Preserve property on a horse-drawn wagon ride! Provided by Rockin Horse Stables and their Belgian Horses! September Fun Facts!

The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy September! The summer may be over, but September is a great month in Maine. The weather is good, the sun is shining and there many activities going on in town. We hope you get a chance to enjoy yourselves. We wanted to present some fun facts about the month of September:
1. September marks the beginning of the autumn in the Northern hemisphere. The name comes from the Latin word "septem", which means seven, since this was the seventh month of the Roman calendar. The month was named during a time when the calendar year began with March. There are 30 days in the month of September.
2. September has three birth flowers: the forget-me-not, the morning glory and the aster. Forget-me-nots represent love and memories, asters represent love as well, and the morning glory represents unrequited love. These are all very passionate flowers.
3. The birth stone for the month is the sapphire.
4. There are several holidays in the month of September, most notably Labor Day, which is observed every year on the first Monday in September. There is also Native American Day, which is celebrated on the 4th Friday of September. And Grandparent's Day, which is observed on the first Sunday following Labor Day.
5. The poem "Mary had a Little Lamb" was published on September 1st, 1830.
6. The Great Fire of London occurred on September 1st, 1666.
7. Former President Richard M. Nixon was given an unconditional pardon, for his role in the infamous "Watergate" fiasco by President Gerald Ford, on September 8, 1974.
8. The Continental Congress changed the name of the United Colonies to the United States on September 9, 1776.
9. The United States was attacked by terrorists, and almost 3,000 Americans in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D. C. lost their lives on September, 11, 2001.
10. President William McKinley was shot while attending the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition in New York, on September 6, 1901. He passed away eight days later on September 14, 1901.
