Happy Thanksgiving!

The King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving! We hope you have a wonderful day with family, friends and love ones. It is a great holiday to spend with the people you care about. We hope you have a plentiful meal with turkey, dressing, potatos, squash, and apple pie. Just make sure to leave room for dessert! Apple, peacon, and lemon meringue pie are all holiday favorites.
We have some very cool facts about Thanksgiving that we want to share with you.
1. Thanksgiving was not officially a national holiday until after Congress declared it one in 1941. Also, President Franklin Roosevelt intially declared Thanksgiving for the 3rd Thursday in November to lengthen the holiday shopping season. This was eventually changed back to the 4th Thursday.
2. The first known Thanksgiving feast in North America was not held by the Pilgrims, but the Spanish Conquistador, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado. In May of 1541, he held a feast for 1500 men in what today is known as the Texas Panhandle.
3. Turkeys can run up to speeds of 20 miles an hour. They can also burst into flight approaching speeds between 50-55 mph in a matter of seconds.
Also, turkeys were one of the first animals in the America's to be domesticated.
4. There are over 280 million turkeys sold for Thanksgiving every year.
We hope you enjoyed these fun facts. Just a reminder: The King's Port Inn has availability for Thanksgiving Day. We have premium rooms for $89 a night.
