July in History

Here are 10 fun facts for the month of July:
1. Postage stamps went on sale for the first time in 1847.
2. Taxes begin to be withheld from paychecks in 1943.
3. ZIP codes go into use in 1963.
4. President Garfield is shot. His struggle to survive lasted 80 days until his death on September 18th, 1881.
5. The Lawrence Welk show premieres on television in 1955.
6. The bikini makes it's debut at a Paris fashion show in 1946.
7. The United States annexes Hawaii in 1898.
8. The U.S. State Department issues the first passport in 1796.
9. Dick Clark hosts American Bandstand for the very first time in 1956.
10. After an unsuccessful attempt to change it's formula, Coca-Cola brings back the ever popular original formula as "Classic Coke" in 1985.
