Skiing In Maine!

Everybody knows Maine for its lighthouses and lobsters along the coast. But Maine is also home to uncrowded lifts and long ski trails in the Western Mountains region. Some of the best ski resorts in New England are located in Maine, only a few hours drive from Kennebunkport. These are a must see, must-ski areas, with spectacular scenery, excellent snow quality, and fewer crowds too. Here are a few famous ski mountains in Maine:
1. Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is Maine's largest single ski mountain with vast terrain from traditional trails to summit snowfields and side-country glades, totaling 1,053 boundary acres of skiing. The views from the 4,237' summit are extraordinary, and the bustling ski village is fun and casual. Sugarloaf, the self proclaimed "King of Spring" is home to a long ski season, staying open into May, with fun events every weekend.
2. Sunday River. Sunday River is not as tall as The Loaf, but its vast eight interconnected mountain peaks, high speed lift network, and super powerful snowmaking make it the most reliable ski resort in the East. It is the second largest ski resort in New England with 820 acres, just behind Sugarloaf at 1,056. Often the first resort open for skiing, Sunday River makes the best snow, grooms it to perfection on most of the 138 trails. Besides consistent skiiing and riding, Sunday River has on mountain lodging from condos to hotels, extensive lesson programs, great ski bars, and a casual resort attitude.
3. Saddleback. Saddleback is old school meets new school. This Rangeley ski area is rustic and relaxed on one hand, but with new lifts and expanded glade terrain it continues to improve. Saddleback has the highest base elevation of any ski area in New England at 4,120' at the summit. Also, their lift ticket pricing is among the lowest. Saddleback offers classic ski trails with stunning views of the Rangeley Lakes Region plus newly added glades that are exciting. Slopeside condos and a beautiful post and beam base lodge make Saddleback a great destination.
