July Fun Facts!

The King's Port Inn is hoping everybody is enjoying the month of July! How could you not, when you are visiting or living in Maine? Maine is such a beautiful state during the summer. As everybody knows, July is the most popular month of the year. This is where families all across the nation go on vacation, and spend a lot of time outdoors. But July also has some fun facts, here are a few:
1. July was originally the month of Quintilis in the Roman Calendar. It was the fifth month of the year until January and February were added in 450 BC. It got its name from the Latin word for fifth. Later the name was changed to Julius in honor of Julius Caesar who was born on July 12th.
2. There are many countries which have their Independence Day in July. These include the U.S., Belarus, Venezuela, Argentina, Belgium, the Bahamas, and the Maldives.
3. July is the warmest month in the Northern Hemisphere on average. It is similar to January in the Southern Hemisphere.
4. Sometimes the hot, long days of July are called the "dog days of summer".
5. It is sometimes called the Hay month because the grass dries out due to a lack of rain and can be made into hay.
6. July's birthstone, the ruby, is often associated with contentment, love, passion, and integrity.
