The King's Port Inn is wishing everybody a happy Winter Season! We hope you are enjoying this season with family and friends. Starting on January 27th and running until February 28th, the town of Kennebunkport is celebrating "Paint The Town Red". It is a celebration of love and romance, where we literally paint the town red for Valentine's Day. The whole town, including Dock Square, will be decked out in red twinkly lights, there will be red plate dining specials, romantic hotel packages, and many Red Tag sales from retailers. With this event, the town makes a claim as being "New England's Most Romantic Town".
There will be many decorations in town, many off-season hotel deals, warm hospitality everywhere in town, to make this a great destination spot. There will be beach walks, ice skating, sledding and cross country skiing for this week. There is also Winterfest in Kennebunk, with many day long winter activities, such as ice skating at Waterhouse Center Ice Rink, Horse and Wagon Rides, Fire Juggling, Figure Skating Performances, Chef Tasting Contest, Entertainment and the Annual Book Sale at the Library!
The King's Port Inn has availability for the month of February. We have premium King rooms starting at $89.00 a night. We also have King Jacuzzi Suites starting at $119.00 a night. Each room includes a free continental breakfast, free wi fi, and free parking. We are located in an excellent location: only 2 block from the center of town. January In History!
The King's Port Inn wants to wish everybody a happy January! Although it's winter and cold, January is still a great month to spend time indoors. Maybe watch a few movies, cook some food, or spend time with your family and friends. There is also football, hockey, and the Olympics! There are many indoor activities to be enjoyed. Here are some fun facts and history of the month of January:
1. January is named after the Roman god Janus, who was always shown as having two heads. The one head looking back to last year, the other forward to the new one. Janus protected the "Gate of Heaven", known as the "Lord of Beginnings".
2. The Roman Senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1st to be the beginning of the new year. During the Middle Ages, the Church remained opposed to celebrating New Year's Day-it has only been celebrated in the western world for about 400 years.
3. January in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to July in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa.
4. On January 1st, 1776, the first American flag, the "Grand Union" was presented. Betsy Rose later added the stars in place of the Union Jack.
5. Leap years exempted, January always begins on the same day as October.
6. The first Super Bowl was held at the L.A. Coliseum in January.
7. In 1801, Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland unite, founding the "United Kingdom"
8. In 1863, The "Emancipation Proclamation" issued by Abraham Lincoln.
9. In 1908, the first New Year's ball dropped at Times Square, NYC.
10. In 1966, Cigarette warnings started appearing on cigarette packages, and in 1971 cigarette television ads cease.
