We at the King's Port Inn want to wish everybody a happy spring. We hope you are enjoying the season thus far. We wanted to share a brief history of the King's Port Inn.
The history of the King's Port Inn is suprisingly simple. Before 1950, there was a farm house that sat on the current lot of the King's Port Inn, on the corner of Rt. 9 and Rt. 35. There is a photograph of this house printed by the Journal Tribune which hangs in our lobby.
At some point in the 1950's, the farm house was torn down, and a restaurant was built. The owners of this restaurant were Don and Elise Showalter. They then expanded the property to include a small hotel, along with the restaurant. The name of this hotel was "Ye Old Highway Inn" and was built in the 1960's. In the 1970's, the Showalter's changed the name of this hotel to the "Nautilus". That name stuck until the late 1970's. The name of the hotel again changed to it's current name "The King's Port Inn". The Showalter's sold "The King's Port Inn" to a college professor named Bill Greer in the early 1980's. Mr. Greer was a handy man, and added some rooms and the third floor to the original hotel. He owned the property up until 2002, when the current owners, the Kudas family, purchased the property from him.
So, as of 2016, there have been 3 different owners of the King's Port Inn. The King's Port Inn has been in business for approximately 60 years. We hope you enjoyed this brief history, and find time to visit us this season.
We have premium rooms with a king bed or 2 queens for only $89 a night. We also have Jaccuzi rooms for only $119 a night. Fun Facts About Spring!
We at the King's Port Inn would like to wish everybody a happy spring! We hope everybody had a wonderful winter season and is ready to embrace the warmer months and summer! In celebration of Spring, the King's Port Inn would like to share some interesting facts about this time of year. So, we present to you 7 fun facts about Spring:
1. Baby birds learn to sing during the spring. Although they were born with the ability to sing, they learn the songs in the spring.
2. If you stand at the equator on the first day of spring, you will see the sun pass directly over head. This only happens twice a year(the other being autumn).
3. Arizona and Hawaii do not follow daylight savings time. They already have enough sunlight and hot weather so the states don't confuse the sleeping cycle of their residents.
4. Daylight Savings Time saves approximately 1% of electricity a day.
5. Daylight Savings Time starts and ends at different times around the world.
6. Spring fevor is a real syndrome. When the temperature rises during the warm spell after a long winter, there is a dilation of the blood vessel so blood can be carried to the body surface where heat can be lost quickly. People experience an energetic feeling when this happens.
7. And finally, Benjamin Franklin(of course!), was the first to propose daylight savings time in 1784. It wasn't fully implemented until the end of the Second World War.
We hope you enjoyed these fun facts. The King's Port Inn has availability in the spring season. We have premium rooms with 1 King bed or 2 Queens beds for only $89 a night. We also have Jacuzzi suites available for only $119 a night. Each room includes a flat screen tv, refrigerator, free wi fi, and continental breakfast each morning.
